Lordos and Others v. Turkey (dec.) - 15973/90

Decision 27.6.2000 [Section III]

Article 1 of Protocol No. 1

Article 1 para. 1 of Protocol No. 1

Peaceful enjoyment of possessions

Impossibility for Greek-Cypriots to recover property located in northern Cyprus: admissible

The applicants were permanent residents in northern Cyprus where they had their homes and imm ovable properties. In 1974, when Turkish armed forces took possession of northern Cyprus, the applicants had to flee to the southern part of the island, leaving behind all their possessions. They have been prevented from recovering their properties since. The application raises similar issues to the Loizidou case (judgment of 18 December 1996, Reports 1996-VI).

Admissible under Article 1 of Protocol No. 1, and Articles 1, 8, 13 and 14.
