STATEMENT OF FACTS

The applicant, Mr Josip Molnar, is a Croatian national who was born in 1955 and lives in Dekanovec .

The circumstances of the case

The facts of the case, as submitted by the applicant, may be summarised as follows.

The applicant ’ s son served as a police officer. It appears that he warned his superiors on several occasions about illegal practices and possible corruption in the police. On 21 January 2013 his dead body was found with a gunshot wound to his forehead. An inquiry was carried out by the same police force to which he had belonged. No autopsy was carried out and it was concluded that he had committed suicide.

COMPLAINT

The applicant complains under Article 2 of the Convention of the lack of an effective and independent investigation into the killing of his son.

QUESTION TO THE PARTIES

Having regard to the procedural protection of the right to life (see paragraph 104 of Salman v. Turkey [GC], no. 21986/93, ECHR 2000-VII), was the investigation in the present case by the domestic authorities in breach of Article 2 of the Convention?
