SUBJECT MATTER OF THE CASE

The applications concern the confiscation of substantial amounts of undeclared cash from the applicants, a brother and sister of Ukrainian nationality, at the Russian-Ukrainian border, in the absence of any indication that they had intended to circumvent deliberately the customs regulations, acquired the cash by unlawful means or engaged in any illegal activities (see Gyrlyan v. Russia , no. 35943/15 , 9 October 2018; Boljević v. Croatia , no. 43492/11, 31 January 2017; and Sadocha v. Ukraine , no. 77508/11, 11 July 2019).
