Inhuman treatment

Conditions of detention in prison: admissible

In 1994 the applicant was found guilty of murder and sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. He was transferred to the Lepoglava State Prison in March 2000 and has been serving his sentence there since. He compla ins of the allegedly appalling conditions of his detention in that prison. He also claims that the prison authorities prevented him from contacting his lawyer and that there were no effective remedies in respect of his complaint concerning prison condition s.

Admissible under Articles 3, 8 (correspondence) and 13.

It was decided that a delegation of the Court would conduct a fact finding investigation.
